This page sets out how we’d like social media accounts to be set up for Cochrane Groups. It covers the five major, international platforms, but we appreciate there might be platforms that we aren’t addressing. Hopefully the principles here can be applied to other country- or region-specific platforms.
For all channels
It is best to set up social media profiles using a shared email address that several people have access to. This prevents you from losing access to the account if/when people leave!
A LinkedIn presence for a Cochrane group should be set up as a page not a person.
This signals that your group is an organization, not an individual; it also allows you to have access to additional functionality such as analytics and access for multiple administrators.
The “industry” for Cochrane group LinkedIn pages should be “Research services”.
Page name
Cochrane [Group name as it appears on the ‘Our Groups’ page]
- Geographic Groups may use their local language (e.g. Cochrane Deutschland)
Examples
Cochrane France, Cochrane People, Health Systems and Public Health, Cochrane Oral Health.
Logo
You should use the Cochrane logo in your Group’s assigned colour.
- The logo should not include the Group name, as this will always appear alongside it.
Example

Header photo
Select a single image that represents your Group. You can find guidance on getting and selecting photos here.
If you have other social media accounts on other channels, Use the same image across all social media platforms where possible to ensure consistency.

About us
Please include the following in your ‘About’ section, this can be translated into your own language if you are a Geographic group.
[Group name] is part of the Cochrane Collaboration. Cochrane is a global, independent, non-profit network of health researchers, professionals, patients and carers who work together to produce and promote trusted, high-quality health information that improves health and healthcare worldwide.
Then include the appropriate description for your Group type:
- As a Geographic Group, we represent Cochrane in [country], promoting and supporting the use of Cochrane evidence in health policy and practice, and supporting Cochrane's members and supporters.
- As a Thematic Group, we focus responding to the needs of the people who use our evidence and collaboratively produce relevant, high-quality work.
- As an Evidence Synthesis Unit, we focus on developing high-quality, timely evidence syntheses in response to diverse stakeholder needs.
- As a Review Group, we produce high-quality systematic reviews that address the most important research questions for decision-makers, health service providers, and individuals.
- As a Methods Group, we provide methodological expertise and develop the methods used to produce Cochrane reviews.
- As a Field/Network, we focus on dimensions of health care such as the setting of care, the type of person receiving care, or the type of care provider.
You can then expand this to add more information about your specific Group, for example, when it was founded, the host institutions, etc.
Example
Cochrane Peru is part of the Cochrane Network. Cochrane is a global, independent, non-profit network of health researchers, professionals, patients and carers who work together to produce and promote trusted, high-quality health information that improves health and healthcare worldwide.
As a Geographic Group, we represent Cochrane in Peru, promoting and supporting the use of Cochrane evidence in health policy and practice, and supporting Cochrane's members and supporters in Peru.
