Please give additional activity details (i.e., reach, impact, duration, return on investment) Members of Cochrane Balearic Islands contributed to an umbrella systematic literature review evaluating the effectiveness and safety of focused deprescribing interventions targeting specific drug classes in older adults across clinical settings. The review included 27 systematic reviews and evaluated interventions targeting drug classes including psychotropics, particularly benzodiazepines, anticholinergics, antidiabetics and fall-risk increasing drugs. Reductions in medication use were most consistent for benzodiazepines and other psychotropics, whereas evidence for clinical outcomes was less consistent. Overall, focused deprescribing appeared feasible and generally safe for reducing selected potentially inappropriate medications in older adults, although clinical benefits varied according to drug class and the certainty of the available evidence was generally low or very low. The review was published in Age and Ageing in August 2026.
