On June 26, 2025, a systematic review and meta-analysis titled “Patient and family engagement interventions in primary care patient safety: systematic review and meta-analysis of randomised controlled trials” was published in the British Journal of General Practice. Led by Yan Pang and co-authored by Dr. Ignacio Ricci‑Cabello, Director of the Cochrane Iberoamérica – Balearic Islands node, the study evaluated 19 RCTs examining interventions aimed at improving medication and overall patient safety through patient and family involvement. While findings were inconclusive—showing no significant reduction in adverse drug events or improvement in medication appropriateness—the review highlighted the need for stronger engagement strategies tailored to primary care contexts.
