Systematic reviewers are familiar with applying the PICO concept to define eligibility criteria
for their review. Recent developments introduced in the Cochrane Handbook extend the
PICO framework to the level of each synthesis in the review. Much of the work in preparing for synthesis occurs at the protocol stage, with authors needing to think about how studies
will be grouped by population, interventions, comparisons and outcomes.
This workshop covered:

1. Planning for synthesis at the protocol stage (before you develop your search)
2. Developing a search strategy for the types of studies eligible for your review
Steve McDonald from Cochrane Australia conducted the workshop which included a mix of presentations and hands-on small group work.
